9th. September 2007
Today’s walk takes us across country from Abernethy Forest and the Braes of Abernethy to Glen Avon.
The walk commences on the outskirts of Nethybridge near Dell Lodge (NGR.012.194) where we follow the forest road southwards to a ‘T’ junction in the forest at NGR.012.161. Here we branch left to pass Forest Lodge and reach another road junction NGR.021.164 where we turn right, cross the River Nethy at a bridge and take the forest road south eastwards for a short distance before branching left and following a track eastwards across the moor near Loch an Spioraid. Beyond there the track crosses a burn and then heads across the moor south of Lurg to cross the Dorback burn and pass the farm of Attinlea. The access road to this farm then joins the secondary road leading southeastwards to Dorback Lodge. Take the left hand branch before the lodge which heads eastwards past Fae and Letteraitten to drop down into Glen Brown. The road then follows the east bank of the Burn of Brown for half a mile before branching right and skirting the hillside eastwards by Stronachavie and Torrans to a junction in the trees where the right hand branch heads past Kylnadrochit Lodge before coming out on the A.939 road near Bridge of Avon. (NGR.149.202).
The bus will be parked in the vicinity of the bridge.
Walking distance = 13 miles. |
